The Eagles and Patriots were behind schedule when the NFL offseason began. After Super Bowl complete, they joined the 30 other NFL teams that had been in draft and free-agency mode for several weeks prior.
Philadelphia — or at least its front office — did not have long to celebrate its championship. The waiver system for 2018 began the day after the big game. On Feb. 20, the window opened for teams to begin designating franchise or transition players. The NFL Combine began Feb. 27 and ended March 5.
Seemingly in an effort to remain the talk of the sports world throughout the year, the NFL has stuffed the calendar with key dates and events, spreading them out through kickoff of the 2018 regular season. Here are those events, including free agency and the 2018 NFL Draft.
When is NFL Draft 2018?
The 2018 NFL Draft will begin Thursday, April 26 and run through Saturday, April 28. Round 1 will take place Thursday; Rounds 2-3 will take place Friday; Rounds 4-7 will take place Saturday.
For the first time in history, the NFL Draft this year will take place inside an NFL stadium. The league in October announced the Cowboys would host the 2018 NFL Draft, meaning AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, will serve as the host venue.
MOCK DRAFT 2018: Bills jump Jets for preferred QB
The draft's move to Dallas follows the success the NFL saw in Philadelphia last year, when a new attendance record was set.
"Philadelphia raised the bar by taking the Draft to another level,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said upon the announcement. “This new opportunity in Dallas will enable us to continue the event's evolution and grow it even further.”
The NFL Draft selection order can be found here.
When is NFL free agency 2018?
There are two full months between the NFL Combine and the NFL Draft, and that schedule void is filled with the beginning of the league year in March, which in turn marks the official beginning of free agency.
On March 14th at 4 p.m. ET, the 2018 free-agency period (and trading period) began. However, beginning March 12, teams were permitted to contact and enter into contract negotiations with the certified agents of players who would become unrestricted free agents upon the expiration of their 2017 player contracts at 4 p.m. ET on March 14. But a contract could not be executed with a new club until free agency began.
